4 Things To Consider When Hiring an Elder Companion Caregiver

There are important things to consider when deciding on hiring a companion caregiver for you or your loved ones.

Here are 4 things to take in consideration before hiring!

1) What are your highest priorities in selecting a caregiver?

Evaluting what your elder needs is important in finding the perfect companion caregiver for you!

Some common qualties wanted are experienced with a variety of medical conditions, good cook, and tech savvy. Consulting with providers before hiring is a great way to make sure your getting the priorites your looking for!

2) How frequently do you want them to visit?

Are you looking for someone who comes in daily, or someone who helps out several times a week? In deciding this, consider:

Does your loved one need help on and off throughout the day?

Can a family member or adult day program cover some of the time care is needed?

Are they safe at night on their own? Is a medical alert device sufficient at times?

Evaluting your loved ones routine and where they need help is important on getting the exact care your looking for!

3) What tasks does your loved one need help with?

Along with knowing where they need help in their routine, its even more important what exact things your loved one is stuggling with on their own. Do they need help with bathing? Dressing? Toileting? Mobility? Meal preparation? Errands? Medication reminders? Going through their mail?

Having a open, honest conversation with your loved one with what they are stuggling with will allow caregivers to know and provide exaclty what your looking for.

4) Ask your loved one’s opinion

Remember to enlist your loved one, if possible, in the process. Your loved one may listen in on the initial interview, and even ask questions. Your loved one will be in this person’s care. His or her opinion matters most when it comes to choosing the right Caregiver.
